If you are aware of the steps to take in order to quit smoking for good, your chances of success are exponentially higher. If you are fully aware, ahead of time, that problems may arise that you will have to deal with, your chance of overcoming them are better and your ability to quit is possible.

The first step is to make a plan. It is also wise to come up with a Plan B just in case. If you can create a plan of attack prior to actually putting out that last cigarette, the better off you will be. You need to decide what method you will use to quit, what day you are going to quit, what goals you want to meet, how you will reward yourself for goals met, and what you will do when something doesn't go according to plan.

The second step is to find support. Going through the process of quitting smoking may be emotionally draining for you if you don't have the support of friends and family. Friends and family can help you hold yourself accountable.
